Commencing Autumn Term 2025
We are looking for a new Teacher of Music to join the department, as it expands in line with increased teaching provision. The successful applicant will be expected to teach across the full curriculum from year 9 to A Level. In addition, all members of the Music Department are heavily involved in the co-curricular programme, including the direction of all the major choral and orchestral groups and a large proportion of smaller ensembles. The successful applicant will similarly have a practical speciality as a musician and there is some flexibility here, though a background in rock/pop, an affinity with music technology or strong keyboard skills would all be an advantage. There are also opportunities for ensemble direction.
We are looking in the first instance for someone who can convey a passion for music, both as a co-curricular pursuit and as an academic subject. We welcome equally applications from experienced teachers, those on a PGCE, or complete beginners: teaching experience is not necessary as the school has its own Graduate Teacher Programme for those new to the profession.
The School’s salary scale is substantially above the national scale.
The Director of Music, Mark Wilderspin, would be happy to talk to any interested applicant and answer any queries. He should be contacted in the first instance by email at mdw@stpaulsschool.org.uk. Applicants without significant teaching experience (for example, not currently enrolled on a PGCE course) are strongly recommended to contact Mark Wilderspin to arrange a visit to the school or a phone call in advance of the interviews.
The closing date for applications is 9am Wednesday 5 February. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 11 February.
