This St Paul’s Masterclass on Character Education will be hosted by St Paul’s Head of Character Education – Dr Phil Gaydon, and SPJ Head of Character Education, PSHE and Charities – Rosie Ferris.
This five week course takes place on site at St Paul’s on the following dates: 24 February, 3 March, 10 March, 17 March, 24 March. Sessions cannot be booked individually. This course is very popular, please only register if you can attend.
What is education and what is it for? What do we mean when we talk about someone’s “character” and how has the idea of “good character” changed over time? Should part of all education be aimed at the formation of one’s character? Who has responsibility for shaping another person’s character? Why has the UK government taken such an interest in “Character Education” in the past few years? These are just some of the philosophical and political questions we will be asking and debating as part of this course. No prior knowledge required! Please note, if you have taken the course “Philosophy of Education” previously, there are substantial overlaps with that course.
