UKLO (United Kingdom Linguistics Olympiad) is a language-analysis competition for all ages. It involves linguistics puzzles and competitions for pupils to encourage a lifelong interest in the world’s languages. Every year around 30-40 Paulines take part in the Advanced Level of the Olympiad, which takes place in February.
Last year we had our most successful year in some time, with 76% of participants being awarded a medal at Gold, Silver, or Bronze level, which are awarded to the top 5%, the next 10% and the next 20% after that of competitors nationally. We even had two Paulines make it to the second round of the competition.
The Advanced Level is open to 8th form pupils at SPS, and we have also in recent years run the Intermediate Challenge for the 4th and 5th form.Â
